It’s another Paralympic American Record for Dolfin Pro Michelle Konkoly!
Michelle, who is a sprint specialist, showed her versatility and strength by breaking the 200m freestyle record at T2 Aquatics’ annual Norris Foundation Meet in Naples, Fl over the weekend. Even though the 200 free is not an official Paralympic event for her classification, Michelle came within a few tenths of the record the last time she swam it. “I was definitely ready to go after it at this meet,” explained Michelle.
Michelle first broke the 8 year old record at prelims with her time of 2:20.63, but she knew she could go faster at night. “I focused on keeping my speed up during the third 50 and bringing it home even harder, which worked…When I touched the wall and heard my coaches cheering on the sidelines, I knew it was a good race before I even saw my time,” said Michelle. She cut almost two seconds off her prelims time to go a 2:18.88, a new American Record. She already holds the S9 American Records in the 50 and 100 free, so adding the 200 freestyle makes Michelle an even more dominant force and the queen of all things freestyle!
With the Paralympic Trials starting in less than a month, it’s exciting that Michelle is dropping best times and breaking American Records. Congratulations, Michelle! Dolfin loves cheering for you on your road to Rio!
