Dolfin sponsored athletes Haley Anderson and Andrew Gemmell were joint recipients of the Perseverance Award at Monday night’s Golden Goggles Awards ceremony in New York City. Recognized for their respective gold medals at the 2014 Pan Pacific Games in the Open Water 10K, Anderson and Gemmell were surprised and humbled to accept the award. “To receive the perseverance award from USA swimming is such an honor. One of the themes of the night seemed to be the great history and tradition of USA swimming, and so it is especially rewarding to be recognized within that context,” said Gemmell. Anderson adds “Golden Goggles is always a great event, and it’s an honor to be nominated amongst so many great athletes.”
The Pan Pacs Open Water races were postponed and relocated at the last minute due to water quality issues in Australia. Held the following week in Hawaii alongside the Junior Pan Pacific Championships, the races landed both Anderson and Gemmell with the gold medal, proving the toughness and resilience of these immensely talented open water athletes. “Open water is the epitome of the perseverance award. Each and every 10k is a battle,” said Anderson.
Gemmell adds, “Open water always seems to have its shares of ups and downs – even more than pool swimming – and so it’s great to see people take note of just how difficult it can really be. Luckily, the people within the USA swimming community make it as easy as possible for us athletes to pursue our goals.”
Dolfin Director of Brand Development, Matt Zimmer, was in attendance at the Golden Goggles ceremony and commented that “Haley and Andrew are the first two Dolfin athletes to be nominated and win such awards. It’s so fitting that they won together, and for perseverance – a cornerstone of Dolfin’s character.”
