Dolfin proudly welcomes open water national champion Emily Brunemann to our Athlete’s Advisory Board. A graduate of the University of Michigan and hopeful to make the US Olympic Team in 2016, Emily is an extremely accomplished swimmer we are thrilled to have on our team!
Born in Cincinnati, OH in 1986, Emily grew up in Crescent Springs, KY with her parents and older brother, Chris. Both Emily and her brother started swimming early as kids, following in the footsteps of their mother, Mary Lynn, who previously swam for Xavier University. Emily’s high school swimming honors include Larosa’s swimmer of the year 2005, undefeated Kentucky regional champion all four years in both the 200 freestyle and 500 freestyle, two time Northern Kentucky Swimmer of the year, and two time High School state champion in the 400 freestyle (2004) 500 freestyle (2005).
After graduating High School, Emily went on to swim at the University of Michigan, where she continued to achieve greatness in the pool. She was NCAA Champion in the mile in 2008, 5 time All-American, 2008 Big 10 Female Swimmer of the Year, and broke BIG 10 records in the 500 free, 1000 free and 1650 free. Emily still holds Univ. of Michigan records in those three events as well.
In 2009, Emily began open water swimming, and has since won Open Water Nationals and was named Open Water Swimmer of the Year. She went on to become a 5-time World Cup Champion and the first American to win the World Cup Circuit in 2013.
A member of the USA National Team since 2007, Emily continues to train with Club Wolverine in Michigan while looking ahead to Rio. In addition to her extensive training in the water, Emily has also been accepted to the University of Michigan’s Graduate program, which she will begin in the Fall to work toward her Masters Degree in social work. As if all that isn’t enough to keep her busy, Emily is also in the middle of planning her wedding to fellow swimmer and Dolfin teammate, Michael Klueh! Emily and Michael will be married in September, and we could not be happier for the two of them! This powerhouse couple is a fantastic addition to the Dolfin family, and we look forward to cheering both of them on in Rio!
Look for Emily in this June’s Open Water Nationals, Santa Clara Grand Prix, Lac St. Jean 10K World Cup in July, and US Nationals in August.
Best of luck, Emily! Your Dolfin family is proud to call you one of us.
